Call for Programs

The theme for this year’s in-person conference is “CommUNITY: the threads that connect us.” In a world where differences are highlighted in our everyday lives, we look to find those roots that bind us together to help us understand and celebrate our shared differences. The goal of the conference is to recognize the higher education commUNITY and our shared commitment of educational excellence, student enrichment and learning, personal and professional development, and to celebrate the diverse community that is Student Affairs. 

We are seeking programs that appeal to a wide variety of higher education staff members, including new and seasoned professionals, front-line staff members, and representatives from non-traditional student affairs units.

Proposal Deadline: Friday, December 8, 2023.

  • Sessions that connect to the theme, “CommUNITY: the threads that connect us.”
  • Sessions that focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, wellness, and/or mental health
  • Interactive, active-learning sessions that focus on personal development and practical learning (i.e. how to mud drywall)
  • Interactive, active-learning sessions that focus on professional development 
  • Sessions with students as co-presenters
  • Focus on best practices, including innovative tools or strategies that enhance the delivery of services
  • Sessions with engaging skills development and tangible skill-building to improve our services
  • Sessions offering facilitated dialogue opportunities (i.e. open forum for discussion around a topic area)
  • Sessions offered in Spanish and Haitian Creole
  • 45-minute program sessions 
  • 60-minute program sessions
  • 120-minute “Extended Sessions” ideally for those submitting programs for Continuing Education Units (CEUs). (CEUs are non-credit continuing education programs intended to improve knowledge and skills of professionals in the field, in this case professionals working in counseling and similar fields.)
  • All sessions should allow time for questions from attendees
  • Is your program more suitable for a 45-minute session, a 60-minute session, or a 120-minute extended session?
  • In what ways will your program be interactive and hands-on?
  • What do you want participants to learn or gain from your program? How can you help participants leave with a tangible path forward?
  • Through your program, how do you hope to impact the future of student affairs?
  • Does your program reflect a positive impact on others and our community?
  • Does your program provide food for thought for positive improvement/ impact to the community?
  • Do you have special expertise in a topic you want to share with others?
  • Does your department have a unique innovation to highlight?
  • Would you like to share your personal experiences as a way to inspire your colleagues?
  • Does your department provide a unique service or program that participants would find helpful or beneficial to them personally and/or professionally?
  • Is your program accessible to all participants with disabilities? Please view this resource for tools on how to make your program accessible.

Program Submission Process:

Program proposals undergo committee review and are selected based on appropriateness of session topic, adherence to proposal guidelines, and overall quality of the proposal. The program committee reserves the right to adjust the length of the program to accommodate the conference schedule.

PROGRAM PROPOSALS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2023.
